Supplements or Drugs?

There is a lot of confusion concerning supplements. Let’s clarify some of this misconception by defining the difference between a drug and a nutritional supplement. By definition, a drug is a substance that is man made and does not occur normally in the body. This is classified as a toxic substance. By definition, a nutritional supplement is a naturally occurring essential nutrient that is found in the body and has a beneficial contribution to its function. The misconception is that all supplements are beneficial, when in fact, most of the ones in pharmacies and even health food stores are chemically altered segments of the nutrient it is supposed to be and therefore a drug.

Almost all multiple vitamins on the market are synthetic and not representative of how they occur in nature. Therefore, the body cannot use them and they must be processed through the liver. If the label does not say “from whole food” or “food grade”, you need to find one that is. Also, there are many types of expensive juices on the market-- for example, gogi, acai, and many others. These are all pasteurized and therefore their nutritional content has been significantly decreased. You would be better to get the actual fruit and make your own juice.
